I found this little box. It's in a pretty good condition considering!!
It was rescued from my gran's house when she died and nobody wanted it so I adopted it.
See what's inside? This is some of Sally and my Gran's tatting with a small piece of paper with her notes on. I THINK I've got a wee book somewhere of hers with samples and notes in - I'll see if I can find it.
Bearing in mind that I was 13 when we learnt the craft together and I'm now 67 (and a half!) then you can sort of date this box and it's contents.

What an absolute treasure! - I love the daisy doily, imagine that tatted in today's threads! It all bears out my belief in creating heirlooms, it's lasted and endured. So why am I now plodding along with a complicated cable pattern for my 6-and-a-half foot son....? It's his birthday soon, it will be finished and then I can tat again.
Oh Jane what a find, a blast from the past, I put a hanky on my blog two days ago that I was given at least 50 years ago. You have some lovely treasures there and I hope they will be pasted on to your children, it would be a shame for such lovely items to be lost.

How special is it that you have this wonderful box and some of your grans tatting too!! I only wish had something like this of my grandmothers!
Wow is there really some of my tatting? Must have a look next time I'm your way. What a blast from the past! Dear Nanny she really did start something with you and I.
What a beautiful keepsake from your Gram. How wonderful that you still have it after all these years. If she could only see how tatting has expanded with techniques and thread choices. :)
Jane this is a tresure I am a little bit yelous.
This box needs a special place in your living room. I wonder I saw on the second picture a piece of lace, I think iot is not tatting. Is irt Bobinlace? Please let me know
Greetings
You have a treasure chest there. How wonderful you have such a lovely tie with your grandmother.
I was taught by my grandmother, and I keep some of her tatting and her shuttles. Wouldn't trade them for anything.
This is absolutely fantastic! You are so blessed to have this treasure from your Grandma!
Blessings,
Diane
Thanks, folks. Yes, Riet - there is a bit of bobbin lace there but goodness knows where it came from. Gran was a water colour artist and went to art school. I don't think she ever did bobbin lace.
What a special treasure! :)
I think I see where brain cell #3 is already working. Can't wait to see what you create with all those lovely treasures from your Gran. Now don't forget to share them with us. (I have the pattern of the doily at the top right in one of my books and tatted it myself. It's in the family room under a lamp. I "padded" the flowers so they would stand out.) You truly do have some GREAT TREASURES there!
You're finding the most wonderful treasures! Lovely and meaningful.
wow, what fun.
I got all 'goosebumply' reading this! I find it amazing that you learned to tat together. How cool is that?? And the handwritten notes are as precious as the tatting! I agree with Carol that your grandmother would be amazed to see how tatting has evolved, not to mention this new world of 'blogging'! But wouldn't she be totally amazed at YOUR contributions to tatting!!! Thank you so much for sharing this with us!!!
