Here we go again. Hopefully my last attempt to get this right. If I don't this time then it gets flung into a drawer and left!!!!
So, here we are with rounds 1, 2, 3 and 4.
Hope to get the other two rounds sorted so I'm happy with them and then ready for the web page. OR should I change the habits of a lifetime and start to sell patterns? Hmmm, others are and seem to be doing OK.
My only worry with doing that is that people may forget that the pattern is for sale (or even worse, I will forget!) and that if it only sells a few then I can't morally give it away. Food for thought. Any suggestions or shall I just stick to the normal route of just chucking them on the pattern pages?

I love the colours - they are what I am using at present, to tat small mats for the twins. They chose the colours themselves, given free-rein to my drawers! ( well...I may have encouraged the choice by putting these colours right on top! )
I would buy your doily pattern in a flash. I'd know that it had been thoroughly proof-read and was 100% before I started to work.
Love the colours and the swirliness! In theory I think it's fine to sell patterns, I know a lot of work goes into them. In practice I have no way of paying for a pattern, so I wouldn't buy it. I am very (!) grateful to those who make their patterns available freely.
I would buy your patterns in a snap! My problem would be that I would forget that I had purchased it and probably buy it two or three times. I know this is true, because I've done it several times thins year already!
I love the colors as well! This is a very nice pattern, as usual.
I would be disappointed if you began charging for your patterns, but I would certainly understand as I know it's a lot of work to create them. I guess it depends on you and how important it is to you to earn $ for your intellectual creativity. You are such an inspiration to the tatting world, and you will continue to be just that with whatever you decide!
Love the pattern.
Just follow the voice - you know, the one that sits in your solar plexes? It never lies!
Fox ; )
Oh gorgeous!!! :)
I would miss getting your patterns for nix but would fully understand if you charge for them. You, more than anyone else online, have given away your design skills, techniques and knowledge for years - so why shouldn't you earn a little "thread or bead money" off them now!
As you pointed out, Jane, other people profit and they haven't given the tatting community a fraction of what you have. Maybe the way to go is to charge for patterns for things like this doily (which is stunning by the way) and still giveaway less complex ones??!!
Just my tuppence worth!
Trayna
I like your patterns and think it's fair to charge. I wonder if a 'choose your own donation' sort of thing would work? Then there won't be an issue if someone pays for it, then sees it given away for free later.
I think that doily is going to be stunning when it is finished. I love free patterns, but I agree with both Fox and Trayna. Follow your heart, but if it tells you to sell it, then do so. You do deserve worth for your inspiration and time. I have thought about it too, I don't have a large portfolio of work, but one of my patterns has been viewed over 3000 times. And I know another has made it around the world several times as I occasionally get emails with question. That one was posted on Georgia's site.
Sorry I wasn't more help. Waiting for the pattern... he he
I've really loved having all your knowledge for free. I have benefited greatly. You do sell things on Etsy. Perhaps some of your patterns could go on there.
I have so appreciated that you have written patterns and techniques for free. You have helped many of us advance our skills and you will always be our go to person for questions.
I love the thread colors of this one!
You do beautiful work and have created so many different patterns through the years. I'm interested in this pattern (whether you sell it or give it away). If you'd like a happy medium - the donation button is a nice choice.
