Sometimes I make something I'm REALLY pleased with. Doesn't happen often but when it does then I really feel great.
This is a hanky that I started some time ago. I do like something that I can pick up when I'm bored with designing or am too tired.
Worked in a number 80 (or thereabouts) variagated thread and using an edging that I did a year or so ago I made this edging again.
When it was finished (first picture) I wanted to add something to the corners to make it slightly less boring so in went some butterflies (second picture). It's SO pretty that I'll be able to give it to someone very special to me.
I may make another to work on while we're on holiday as it is so easy to pick up from time to time. We'll see!!!

Beautiful colours! I would never have thought of using those threads together but it's quite effective. Looks rather Eastern European, I think.

What a very cool hanky edging! I love the way the split rings play with the design and the colors! It's fun to look at to try to figure out how you did it! Love it! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat sweet little touches and I love the thread you used. Colours are great.
ReplyDeleteI have a feeling you would go absolutely bonkers if someone were to tie your hands behind your back. LOL!
ReplyDeleteThat is just gorgeous, Jane. I love the colours and the pattern and everything about it.
ReplyDeleteI have followed your no-nonsense approach to several aspects of my learning in Tat-land and must thank you for your wise approach. Example - sewing in threads and a few other things I cannot recall at the moment. Just wanted you to know how important your presence in this realm is! Fox
Two words, Absolutely Beautiful. In the US, if we really think highly of a person, we say "you rock", so from across the pond "Jane, YOU rock".

Thanks, everybody. The link to the pattern is here http://www.e.n.e.btinternet.co.uk/Edging2008.pdf
ReplyDeleteFox, I sent you an email but it bounced on me. I'm glad I've helped you on the way through tat land.
Absolutely lovely!
ReplyDeleteI've just woken up to see this gorgeous hanky! Hanky edgings are my favourite to tat because they take such a long time that I don't have to make any other decisions for ages, and after a few repeats I don't need to carry the pattern around, so it's all very peaceful- but I've been looking at the antennae - did you whip-stitch them down? The green butterfly is variegated, do you actually mean to tell me that you changed thread every few stitches to match the colours?
ReplyDeleteIt's absolutely gorgeous! Love the extra touch of the butterflies.
ReplyDeleteLove it! That thread reminds me of apples. I'm not one to do hankies too often because I will not use the hanky for fear of ruining all the labor that went into it. Never mind the fact that I just bought some hankies the other day...
ReplyDeleteI used my favourite but most aggravating thread for the butterflies - an invisible one. I did go over and over the antennae to hold them in place. Really felt they were worth the struggle with the thread to finish off the hanky!!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, Jane. I would be very proud of it too. I like to have a project going that I can pick up when I need to. Another way we are alike!
ReplyDeleteWow, Jane that is beautiful!
