New thread

I don't often get excited about new metallic thread but this one is absolutely fantastic.

It is a new line from Lyn Morton at Tatting and Design.

It's called Nakis Simi and the colour is Bakir. There are other colours too. A goldy one, red (well more of a maroon), green, blue and silver. I've only got small samples of the other colours but I'm going to HAVE to order the silver and gold today.

It tats (shuttle, of course!) brilliantly but gives the look of wire tatting and feels a bit 'wire ish'. If you look at the picots they all 'stand up' beautifully. I never use a picot gauge so these are all 'eyeballed'.

I love it. Gotta make more stuff with it now!!!

  1. Good to know. I always like to hear good reports on metallic thread. The stitches are very even on this one. That is usually hard to do with metallic thread and usually it's the fault of the stiff thread. Thanks for the thread "critique".

  2. That looks really neat! I'm not much for metallic threads since I have to undo so much of my tatting. Maybe I'll rethink my hesitation. I'm off to check out the colors!

  4. It looks similar to the DMC embroidery thread I use for tatting. Metallic filaments wrapped around a strong center core. It tats up just like this. Haven't heard of this new thread. Thanks for showing and testing it out. :)

  6. That is beautiful. Is that pattern simple? I am working hard on my tatting and I think I am getting better. I have some earrings on my blog that I finished this week. Let me know what you think of them.

  7. So is it metallic fibre wound in with the cotton?
I tried Altin Basak Simli once, it was like that and it was horrible. I'm nervous now, about metallic threads - the Simli was fine for crocheting.

  8. Tudy, the pattern is simple. All split rings but very easy.
Maureen. The metallic is three strands wound together. No cotton with it. I didn't like the Simli either!!! In the end I gave mine away. This thread is also very cheap at £1.99 a spool and there's loads on it. I've ordered more!!

  9. LOL Jane, I think you are the 'split-ring' queen!!! :) This sounds like a really awesome thread too. I know I would like to tat with metallic threads, but the ones I have tried,,,the 'metallic' thread itself, always seems to break on me. :(

I did some metallic thread a few yrs ago in a tatting exchance,,,that is pretty good, as long as I don't separate it smaller. But it is pretty large when mixing with another thread.

Thanks for the info. LOVE that tatted cross too!
