Handkerchief edging - finished AND sewn on!!

'They' say that miracles never happen.  Well, here in my small corner of tat land they sometimes do!!!

I not only finished the handkerchief edging but I also sewed it onto the cotton.  Actually I hand sewed the hanky itself a few months ago.  These 'blanks' were a batch I bought probably twenty years ago and they were machine sewn and not straight.  Well, not to my eye!!!

I cut off the excess round the woven section where the weft and warp were slightly whiter and hemmed them up along the outer 'line' of white.  I used white sewing thread for this.

However to add the edging I used invisible thread - known by me as 'nightmare' thread!!!!!  Still, keeps an OG out of mischief!!!

I'll check later to see if the pattern is already on my pattern pages.  Not sure as it's been a long time since I last 'inspected' that area of my life!!

  1. The handkerchief looks wonderful! Twenty years old or brand new, I have yet to find a hanky blank that looks even to my eye. I've thought of making my own from scratch. Maybe once I get my sewing room back in order...

  3. You have managed it!! Well done. I failed, took an edging to tat on holiday and ran out of some ancient cotton. Will post the sad result soon. Also wait (not so patiently!!) for the pattern!!!!!

  5. Loverly pattern, mate. Good for you, getting it done to the end and I really like your color choices. I still want to tat that hankie pattern of yours, that I have had for ages! But NOW, I have an actual linen, nicely sized, hankie that is worthy of that wonderful pattern. I like that pattern (one pass) you posted because it is nice and deep.
Can't wait to see what brain cell #3 comes up with next.

  6. Ooh, such a pretty hanky edging and you did an impressive job attaching it, especially with "nightmare thread." I'm jumping in the queue to wait patiently for the pattern.

  8. Jane, this is lovely! I just love your work! I've got a couple of hankies "staring" at me everytime I walk into the room they're in. Perhaps your beautiful and inspiring edging, here, will go on one of them. :)
