Oh, dear - it's broken

Well that's the end of a wonderful relationship.  The end of this dear little hook has broken.

Not only has it been a constant companion for over two years it's also holds many fond memories of Palmetto Tat Days the year before last.  That would be 2007.

I bought this off Georgia Seitz and it's been with me ever since.

BUT all is not quite lost - I bought two 'just in case'.  Now after Christmas I'll order another from Georgia 'just in case' the other one dies.  Mind, I've yet to find it in my muddle!!!

I think I'll also treat myself to one of Sherry's pen hooks too - if they go as fine as this one.  I've had hooks break before - must be mental fatigue.

Nope, not a typo - just living with me must drive them mental!!!

  1. I've had them break on me before, too, Jane. So I made my own stash! Well, actually I made one of the guys at work make a stash. He cut them down, drilled a hole in the shank and added a jump ring so I could hang them on a retractor I clip to my shirt. No more lost hooks and a bunch of spares, but I couldn't tell you where I put them....

  2. It must be the season! Maybe we need to keep them extra warm? I had one break just a week ago. It wasn't anything special though (thank goodness) so I've gone back to using my Gramma's hook.

  3. Ha ha! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who buys 2 at a time of those tiny hooks! They always break on me! UGH!!!

  4. Gee, my mini hook must be really a sturdy gal. I have Sherry's hooks (I have 2) in diff. roly poly bags. It is getting so that each bag I have is completely stocked with the essentials. I feel rich! LOL
But I am sorry your faithful companion broke... Mayhap Santa will bring you one of Sherry's hooks. One never knows.

  5. Hey, folks, all is not lost. I've found the 'spare' and things are back to normal! Well, as normal as anything ever gets round here!!!

  6. Oh dear! A broken hook is really a crooked bit of bad luck. Hopefully Georgia can replenish your back-up stash for a future rainy day.

Knocking on lots and lots of wood that my hook(s) don't break before the holiday tatting is complete.

  8. now it is a perfect laying tool or stiletto! That is what I use my broken hooks for. Or could be a nice picot gauge too. Just a thought!

  9. Hey, Mark. Do explain - what's a picot gauge?!?!?

  10. I still have the same one....not sure how many years I've had it now but it's a size 14. Not had that size break but had a 16 break. I have a hook pen too that I bought in Montana when I visited several years ago but I don't like it as well. It's my emergency hook that I carry in my tatting box or when I fly. Since my hook is usually "hooked" to me, the pen one just isn't as handy but it's a good idea & if mine ever breaks, I'll know where to go for a new one!
