Dog doodle

SHEEEEESH - can't believe I'm keeping this up!!!!

Introducing what I believe is a dog doodle.  Least I think that's what it originally started out to be some 30 years ago when it was one of my 'teaching aids'!!!

I was known to appear in school with all sorts of things hanging from my ears - the tatting doodles were quite tame!!  Least the kids were happy to come to school to see what 'teacher' was wearing - anything to amuse the four/five year olds (and their parents).

I wore tea bags, dog biscuits, wrapped sweets, numerous Christmas decorations, adio tapes and anything that would hang from a pair of ear wires.  I think my best ever was turning up to a VERY posh party with a pair of bath plugs (marbled red) hanging from my ear lobes.  1 1/2" diameter ones - I've still got them somewhere too.

  3. OMG, Jane, I sure wish I was one of those kids who came to school! My kids would come to school wondering what bits of candy or cheese I'm passing around when I read stories with them. How boring compared to those earwigs you'd worn?! I should have known you earlier.

    The dog doodle is cute!!

  4. This doodle has got to be more elegant than bath plugs!

  5. absolutely, wonderfully, original Jane. brain cell 3 was alive and active even then. I'll bet the kids are still talking about their teacher. you never know what you leave children when you teach them, it comes back in many different ways. I am sure one of the things they learned from you is that it is o.k. to be different and to march to your own drummer.

    your dog is cute too.

  6. Ah, Ladytats, it was a BIG factor in my headteacher making sure I was made redundant from teaching at the age of 48. Right slap bang in the middle of my 'four bad years'. Probably wasn't such a good idea in hindsight but I couldn't help myself!!!! Yes I still see some of the kids around town from time to time and their parents - the earrings are often mentioned!!!!!

  7. It's difficult to believe there wasn't a big outcry against your being made 'redundant'. I know you've mentioned your 'four bad years', but I guess I didn't know this also happened. What a shame for the kids as well as yourself. You've continued to be exceptionally artistic and creative, and you certainly haven't lost your sense of humor. We are all grateful for that!

Am I correct that you are planning to be at Palmetto Tat Days? I was so delighted to read that!

Ah Jane, your earrings story to keep the little ones engaged made me smile. I also was known for my funkey and always mismached earrings and soxs( well the sox weren't mismatched just fun) during my 35 years of teaching little ones. My earrings were not quite as clever as yours.

  10. My 5th grade teacher wore large, colorful earrings and her skirts and blouses were bright flashy colors. Her fun personality matched. My Mom told me when I arrived home each day I'd tell her what Mrs. Ottinger wore that day - not what I'd learned. Thank your for bringing some fun memories to surface. Karen in OR
