Grrrrrr

Yes this is a grrrrr post.  Why?  Well I'm finding it more and more difficult to make comments on blog posts because of the word verification thingy.

I am not quite sure why blogger put that option on there as even without it you can moderate comments.  I suppose it stops spam but as I rarely, rarely get spam (and I do blog a lot as you've probably noticed) I can't see why it's there.

A week or so ago I tried 5 times to leave a comment on Jane's blog and when I finally got there I told her the problem.  I then researched the settings on my own blog (I got rid of the verification some time ago) and sent her this screen shot so she could change hers.  As you can see I've got mine set with 'comment moderation' always and 'show word verification' no!!!!

I hope this helps others who may want to do the same!!  If you go along these lines I'll be able to leave comments without throwing a brick at my computer!!!!

  3. Hi Jane, Thanks for posting this, I have a difficult time also leaving comments, then get frustrated because I can't get the verification word right, so I end up not leaving a comment. I just changed this on my blog too. Have a great week!

  4. Hi Jane,
I have the same problem at the moment I am in Greece with. Slow painful connection that drives me insane. And then we have word thingy to add to my problems, I go and press publish and the hotel connection falls away into outter space and I try and try again, or give up, so if anyone has not had a comment or got half a one, it's the Greek thingy.
I wish blogger would take away this word thingy with numbers the iPad changes into words and then blogger says its wrong and you ha e to start again, I agree grrrrrrrrrrrrr
Sorry I look as if I am sounding off no just saying my bit.

  5. It's become terribly difficult to leave comments - those stupid words are always impossible to decipher, and sometimes the numbers are as well! I try once, and that's it - so most of the time I don't manage to comment anymore.

  6. lol, I too took off word verification. I however don't allow anonymous comments because I was getting daily spam comments. While they didn't get posted because google identified them as spam, they were so annoying to see in my mailbox everyday. I get a little notice of my phone anytime I get an email, so you can imagine how annoying it was to get those reminders and then see that some person was trying to sell me drugs or whatever. lol

  7. Thanks for making this adjustment so easy for us, Jane!

It was SUPERB to meet you and your sister Sally while at Tat Days! Better than my wildest dream. Hope your trip back across the pond is calm, smooth and not riddled with technical difficulty! Boring is best when 30,000 feet in the air!

  8. Yeah, I got rid of my word verification a couple of days ago. I used to like it, but since Blogger changed the format, the words have been way harder to make out; I strongly suspect that people with certain types of visual problems wouldn't be able to do it at all. I haven't gotten any spam yet, although now that I think about it, I actually did get a few spams with verification on, so I agree that it doesn't seem to serve a purpose.

  9. I totally agree and was I believe one of the first bloggers to get rid of the damnable thing, but had to re-instate it as I was getting all kinds of ugly spam that Jess refers to in her comment.

I will have another go ... I shall try to defy the detestable spam while turning off the notification. Blah.

  10. Well! I went to turn the thing off and lo and behold it is already set at "NO!"

No wonder I am getting advertisements in Greek in my Spam in comments!

I will NOGT be turning oit on however as I only get two a day!

  11. I just changed my setting! I, too, do not like that I cannot read the scribble but I (like Fox) get spam when I do turn it off.....I'll live with that. Thanks!

  12. Thanks Jane, I have occasionally thought about posting this as well, glad you did it.
I have the word thingy turned off and moderation turned on. I used to get spam, now I haven't gotten any for several weeks. Don't know why, lucky I guess.
Have a safe trip back home. Glad you and Sally had a chance to come over.

  13. One bit of info for everyone. I, generally, only get spam comments on posts with "simple" titles. My posts that have unusual titles rarely get unwanted attention. :o)
