A horse, a horse

My kingdom for a horse.  Well, about two/three yards of thread!!!  For the sake of about two/three yards this doily has failed. Totally and utterly.  You can see where on the lefthand side.

In all the years I've been tatting (around 58) this has never happened to me before. Oh woe is me. Woe, woe and triple woe.

I've plenty of the plain which is Lizbeth 635 but I ran out of Yarnplayer's Hot Pink and Lime with just 5 rings to do. So this is one for the box which will never get finished.

Sue Anna gave me this skein of the thread when I was at Palmetto and I couldn't wait to try it out. Love this colour way but now out of love with the unfinished doily. That'll teach me not to think about things before I start them!!!!  No more in her shop either and the cost of a whole skein when I still need to use up (and WANT to play with) my other HDT just isn't worth the postage either.  I suppose I could use the plain thread on both shuttles for that last bit.  Ah, there's an idea and perhaps all is not lost yet!!!!

  1. Oh dear me. I do hope you will finish it with the plain thread, it's much too pretty to be ditched. And the plain forms the outline, so I do think that would work.

  2. Oh dear, I hope the battle isn't lost for the want of a nail !
I agree with Jane - it is a Beautiful doily & hope you complete it. You are sure to think of something , and are merely teasing us :-)
Just a thought - how about using a similar thread in plain white or ecru, and using fabric paints to get the desired variegation?
It is a very short length after all.

    Lovely pattern & effect !

  3. Jane - I woke in such a good mood and when I saw your doily I could feel your pain. Then I turned my head to the right and OH MY! Some flowers bloom larger at the top. Leave it as is, turn it to the left, see. I would be proud to show it off if you won't.

  4. Wish that I had some of that thread so I could send it to you. Maybe someone else can help you out. The doily is lovely. I'd love to tat it in pink and green. Is this one of your patterns? Merry Christmas!

  6. I think finishing in the plain purple will work. or do you have some of the green in regular thread so that the rings will be green?

  7. Wow, what some great ideas. I like that one, Ladytats. I could do part of the rings with a matching green and hide ends. I sort of know what I'm talking about but you've given me another great thought.

Ohh, much too pretty to toss in the box and leave unfinished. Try the plain thread....or use green....and see if you can find a way to make it work.
