Having 'done' the big patchwork I'm surprised to find I'm still 'in the mood' to do another. This time I do have an idea of what I'm aiming for - a small cloth for an occasional table in our living room.
The last one which I did many, many MANY years ago was made using tiny hexagonal pieces and I fussy cut some of those to highlight certain parts of the print. This really appealed to me as it was only recently, whilst researching for the last project, that I learnt that the way I'd done that cloth was using fussy cut - as far as I know in 'those good old days' it didn't have a name!!!
Anyway, here are a few pictures of progress so far. The last picture is where I am at the moment!
Wow, Jane, that's fabulous. Are the motifs appliqued, or carefully chosen parts of the fabric?
ReplyDeleteCarefully chosen fabric from my stash with the individual motifs cut out. Wastes some fabric but well worth it for the results I think.

ReplyDeleteNo, not appliquéd. Just chosen carefully from the fabric. Wastes some but worth it, I think.

ReplyDeleteI am amazed how far along you are on this great table mat! Very attractive colors and placement! You are as fast with your hand sewing as you are with a tatting shuttle! I really like the fussy cutting, as it is a great way to have an appliqued look! And I imagine the hand sewing is actually easier than machine piecing - not to mention being portable. I have a small stash of fabric around here, and you're giving me the incentive to do something with it!
