Dora Young finished

Here is the Dora Young doily - finished!!! Meant to show you this the other day but, of course, I went and forgot!!!!  I actually finished it a week or more ago but guilt hit in and I realised that I'd have to get BC3 onto the TIAS or I'd be in trouble with people in January!!!

I even added the outside optional row to the doily to give it a sleeker edge. I'm SO pleased with it as I feel it really does 'finish it off'.  I've not been this excited about a tatting book for years as you've probably gathered.

Having said that - I do LOVE my Houtz brothers books (particularly the bauble one) and Martha Ess's books too (Critters and Toys are my favourites).  I've also got the latest Houtz triangle book to play with and Martha's toy book but I really, really need to keep focussed on the TIAS!!!

Thinking about the baubles book it's time I made another mouse or two as some lovely beads that Jane K gave me in Canada last year are waiting and BEGGING to be used for mouse eyes.

Do you think I'm rambling today?  I think I am so please forgive me and blame it on old age!!!  I'm now 73 - had a birthday earlier in the month.  That means I've been tatting for 60 years.

This evening I'm giving a talk to a local spinners and weavers group.  I'm DREADING it as I tend to ramble!!!  Do you think they'll put it down to old age too?  I do hope so.  I'll tell you about the talk and whether I survive (and the group too) on Monday.  Meanwhile it's back to the TIAS!!!!

  1. It wasn't until you showed the completed doily here that the centre pattern jumped out! What a very clever design this is - I wonder if it would work in colour?

  4. Jane, Happy Birthday!! That doily looks great. I need to do the mouse to join your club. I have the bauble books. Tried to do the one at Tat Days, but just made a mess. I did not know what I was trying to do until Sue Hanson showed me a week later at our meeting. Waiting on the TIAS!!

    1. I was only 13 when I started and have been trying to kick the addiction ever since!!!! I hope I can make the talk fun!!!! I got the giggles at our craft group this afternoon over something I wanted to ask the group. We were all laughing so much I couldn't ask them the question!!! Must remember to behave this evening!!!

  9. I just received Martha Ess's book Toys for tatting. It's much cheaper to order it from her blog. I tried to order it from Handy Hands and they charge an arm and leg for the shipping. I'm so excited. Chuffed as you would say.

  11. It came out great, Jane. Happy belated birthday. You got quite a head start on me by learning to tat so young.

  12. Jane, come on you can do the talking without a problem. We all know that you can do it just remember the naughty things you did on tat days.
WE talked about that yesterday evening.
    Please start the TIAS

  13. As a member of the audience of the tatting rambling group yesterday evening I can assure Jane you it was a great talk and evening . Thank you so much (though I can't see it as an obsession I will take up. Too tied up in my woolly wanderings.)

    1. OMG, Clare, I hope you weren't one of the audience who I had to poke from time to time to keep awake!!!! Seriously I must admit to thoroughly enjoying getting onto my bandwagon in front of live people. You should see my room today - I've decided to have a 'good tidy up' while putting the tatting away. It hurts, it hurts SO bad trying to be tidy. Thank you for the lovely comment.
