1st Blue sock finished

This is the first of my blue socks - finished. A real pleasure doing this as the pattern is in the wool and you just keep knitting while it does it's own thing!!!!

There's a matching 'other' thread which you use on the heel and toes although I didn't use it on the toe. It blends in and strengthens the wool. I can't wait now to start the second one!!!

  1. How clever - looks as though you've had to use great numbers of yarns. Fairisle without floats - perfect.

  2. I'm almost to the point where I can justify spending time knitting socks! Just two more rooms to organize, and then I will be in a crafting frenzy! ;-)

  3. Love these self-striping socks, and I assume you are using the Continental method with ease now. I'm so glad you have conquered it and didn't give up!

I've been trying to find out the history of the self-striping yarns and can't find anything yet. It's such a brilliant concept and almost seems impossible to achieve. When I discovered the yarns at Michaels back around 2004, I was in disbelief! It's so magical to knit with! The manufacturer back then had several wonderful color combinations, and I started knitting socks like crazy - gave some away as gifts. Then all of a sudden that brand disappeared! I was quite disappointed. Of course, other companies started to manufacture it and now we have many choices. But I keep wondering who came up with the idea of the longer color changes than is normally seen with variegated yarns.

I am a member of Ravelry, so I'm going to try to find more information there, but I don't have time to search right now as our tatting group is attending our two annual festivals this weekend (one location on Sat. and one on Sun.) and I have to gather my 'stuff' togethe
    and get 'organized'!

  4. I'll be interested in what you find out about the history of this type of dying. I've so enjoyed doing this sock with it and can't wait to get the second one done (started on it!).
Lucky you going to two tatting festivals. Wish I was coming with you.
