Now I do NOT like Pinterest. OK, probably irrational but I've seen whole books still in copyright uploaded to that site - or pins to sites where stolen books can be found.
I used to have a Pinterest account some years ago because back then it seemed like a 'good idea'. However once I found out the pitfalls I closed the account. Unfortunately I found that most searches I do on Google find Pinterest first and that's really annoying.
Anyway, I've now realised (yes, it takes time!) that most of the pins on there don't lead to the pattern that you've found during a google search and that's pretty annoying. Time's too short (in my case!) to spend hours finding something that's just not there to be found easily!!
So I've decided for my own benefit and (hopefully) others to upload links to all my patterns on Pinterest. It's taken a good many hours but I'm hoping it'll prove time well spent.
Now as it's a requisite to add a picture to a blog post (so you don't all fall asleep) here's one I made earlier!!!
I find it highly annoying that people post copyrighted patterns on Pinterest. However, I use it as a way of organizing ideas that I want to try out. I don't visit often, but sometimes I need a little inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI find Pinterest marvelous, though I know it has drawbacks.
ReplyDeletePoor Marilee Rockley, who depends on the sale of her tatted patterns to support her and her family, has found many of her patterns pirated on there and being sold by other people as their own. As I have test tatted many time for Marilee I know the many hours involved in creating her patterns. And as she is one of the sweetest, kindest Tatters I know my Irish gets up when this happens to her or any other designer. This is not only illegal but down right thievery!
ReplyDeleteI have loved that you offer your patterns for free especially when I understand the work involved. Thank you for being so generous. I’d rather have a permanent, legal copy of a book than a pirated one!
I agree with your thoughts on Pinterest, and I have an account, but don't know what to do with it so it just sits there. ;)
ReplyDeleteIt is a shame that people post patterns that they don't own. I do like Pinterest as a way to bookmark sites and for inspiration. Thank you Jane for linking your patterns on Pinterest!
ReplyDeleteWell, I like the picture you put up. Nice motifs!
ReplyDeleteI probably won't go to pinterest because of lack of pinterest.
They put up an overlay and try to make you open an account. I don't deal with sites like that. Facebook too.
You currently have 28 followers on Pinterest, I'm one of them! :) Thank you so much for creating that board, much easier and quicker to find what we're looking for :)))))
ReplyDeleteI like Pinterest as a source of inspiration, as others have said before me, but I hate to see so many stolen patterns there. TAT19540 is right; I have all but one books by Marilee Rockley (and the last one is on my wishlist anyway ^_^), because I like her work obviously, and I'm grateful for all her work. She has free patterns and videos on her blog, why don't people use those to make tatted items? It seems they think that everything on the Internet should be free. Well, it SHOULD not be free, so when it is I'm thankful. And anyway, free or not free, somebody else's pattern is not mine, so I don't say it is. I know that will sound moralistic to those people, but IMHO that's simply basic decency and respect.
Well said, craftie sylvie. Thank you for being one of the 28!!! I didn't know you could have followers on Pinterest so I've learned something new from you!!!
ReplyDeleteI look at some and if I like it I buy it. I have felt ripped off at times not being able to get a glimpse at the inside of a book and then pay a ridiculous high price.
ReplyDeleteI agree that there is too much pirated information on Pinterest. Google removes search results to sites with copyright infringement, so it is very unfair that Pinterest is on the top search results for images...
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your patterns for free, that is really kind of you! I also learned a lot from you, thank you!
