Well that didn't take long. Mainly because I didn't have to fiddle around playing 'hunt the right buttons' or 'hunt the press studs' or even 'hunt the right thread'!!!
Not sure if it was obvious in the picture the other day but I'd also ironed on the stiffening for the cuffs and the front band.
Preparation seems to be the right way to go - just a pity I don't do it every time. Now that the local fabric shop is shutting down (there were two but one's gone already and the second will go in a few weeks) I think I'll have to be sure that when I travel to buy fabric I need to also remember to buy the odds and ends to complete the project.
All in all I'm really chuffed with my two new tops. Now for the cooler weather to wear them!!
They are beautiful🌹 and a nice addition to any wardrobe. One out of two of ours went out of business too.very sad🙁
ReplyDeleteCooler weather??? Shock! Horror! Noooo!!!
ReplyDeleteI needs summer where it's warm, not freezing in the winter!
Mind you the socks and top look good... and well soon get spring again!
Very nice! When will you start taking orders? ;-)
ReplyDeleteGone are those days, Diane - unless it's for tatting, though!!!
ReplyDeleteOoh yes, I like that. I know the ‘hunt the right thread and button’ feeling, good for you for being organised and avoiding it.
ReplyDeleteGreat top! :)
ReplyDeleteI love that top! Do you have a pattern or did you play by ear?
ReplyDeleteOh, gosh, craftie sylvie I really, really need patterns for sewing and I follow them step by step. Well, almost!!!
ReplyDeleteSame here, I wouldn't dare changing too much of a pattern in case I end up with a nightgown for Gozilla's big sister! Any chance of me finding this particular pattern or is it one you've been having in stash for some time?
ReplyDeleteI bought the pattern back in the Spring, craftie sylvie. It's a McCall's and the number is M7248. I hope you can find it. I was lucky and got it at half price!!!
ReplyDeleteJust found it! Thanks so much Jane. My brand new machine has one more item on its to-do list :)))
ReplyDeleteWow, craftie sylvie you were quick!!! I like the round neck version best I've found!!! Lucky you having a new machine - many happy sewing hours ahead for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you :D
ReplyDeleteThose tops look so comfortable! And so neatly done! I was kind of relieved to learn you do use patterns, although it wouldn't surprise me if you came up with your own!
ReplyDeleteDid I miss the reason why your fabric stores are closing? In our area we are fortunate to have several places to get fabrics including the usual 'big box' stores (although a few quilt stores have closed). When THE Major Chain store stopped selling fabric and crafts in our area a few years ago, there was a big hue and cry, and the fabrics - and crafts - were returned! A Great Victory! Although I am not a big purchaser of fabric, it is quite satisfying to see it back in the stores! Unfortunately, my sewing machine is 'buried' right now in my craft room, which I have to share with boring file cabinets and household files, and it's a chore to clear space on the 'desk' to sew!
The reason for the high street shops (and it's not only the fabric shops) are closing is because of online sales. That and the business rates are so high - particularly in our popular town. It's such a shame. I now have to travel to Birmingham to buy any sewing stuff or resort to online buying. I like to see and feel my fabric before I buy!
ReplyDeleteWish I had a craft room but I don't - just a couple of cupboards. I sew in the conservatory so I mainly sew in the Summer or warm Spring/Autumn days so I don't spend money heating the room. Lovely for light, though!!!
