More about being tidy

Well I asked Sally for suggestions on what to call these little 'pots' and she came up with several suggestions but the one I like best is the Tatting Tidy.

This is the second prototype but I'm STILL not happy with it.  I think I've thought of a better way of making them.  The way I made this one took soooooo long I nearly fell asleep while making it!!!!!

Maureen sent me a fabulous way of making something similar (thank you, M) and it looked much easier too - BUT I've always gone my own way and am still going along with this idea.  Phyllis also suggested putting handles on so you can take it with you but the whole idea (thanks, Phyllis) is to have a static place by my table.  Also I wouldn't want my 'equipment' on the outside of a bag that I took around with me - in case stuff fell out!!!!  I have made bags (dolly bags) before now with the pockets on the inside and a drawstring closure and they work but this one is supposed to stay where it's put and I'm supposed to keep things tidy in it!!!

I've still got this particular bee in my bonnet so will have another go at a different way of making them over the next few days.  Several days of having the first one by my side and I'm still using it.  It's great to go to tat corner and find what I want straight away and just because BC3 actually put things away in their proper place!!!  Another bonus - I haven't sat on the scissors for days either!!!

  1. It looks so different from the first one - the one with the denim. You're very clever, who was it said that if you see a need, do something about it?
I think we might all need one of your tidies....

  2. Great idea, you might sit on your sissors, I sit on my hook, being extra careful at the moment as I am not allowed to stretch, pick up or bend, so hook is beside me on settee, It stills finds a way of disappearing

  6. Love the name. It will be on my list. I have a small pucket with everything thrown in. I was thinking the handle for when tatters get together like guilds, meetings, conferences. But I guess you could use a tote bag and place the "tidy" inside and the take it out on the table. Wala, your ready to tat!

  7. I love the idea, but it would mean finding an empty place on my side table (like that's going to happen.) I may adapt it to a tool holder and hang it over the arm of my chair. I don't think the ball of thread would fit, but at least my tools would be handy! Thanks for the inspiration!

  9. I really like it. I was thinking a drawstring version might be cool also.

  10. Love this Jane! I currently keep all my tatting must haves on our coffee table in a beautiful basket I got at a craft show, but need something like this bag with pockets on the outside to make it easier to find things quickly. I'll keep an eye on your Etsy shop (I already do) for you to list some when you get it ready. My friends call me a "bag lady" because I never seem to have enough purses and craft bags, especially hand made ones. And really, can a woman ever have too many bags???
