Another Fandango and Facebook problems!!!!

Interesting experience over the past two days.  I've been bumped off a Facebook tatting group because I remarked on two patterns published there which are still under copyright.  Nobody has told me that I've been bumped and I've applied to join again.  I'm stubborn!!!!

The group blatantly has this at the top of the page:-
"In this group you can publish any tatting pattern, for sharing with other Fairies".

One of the 'offending images' was a pattern from a Mark Myers book.  If anybody else is in the group please will you back me up on what's going on there?  I've no time for people who publish other people's patterns which are still being sold in books and are under copyright.  Grrrrrrrrrrrr.

This time with the Fandango large square I've gone back to plain colours as I now want to see whether two or more can be joined and what that then needs in the way of tweaking the pattern again!!

We'll see how far this plan progresses!!!!

Interesting how reversing the colour placing changes the appearance.

what's the name of the group, Jane? - I am newly-come to Facebook, so not terribly involved with it yet - although my daughter, the bride-to-be, says "Mother you are a Facebook Stalker...." how exciting, and all I ever wanted was to see her pictures!

I will email you privately, Maureen. I don't do much on FB but it's an interesting environment!!!! My kids went 'quiet' when I joined!!!

Have emailed you privately Jane.... Now please tell us... the 'new' extended Fandango Square... you are publishing it on your pages aren't you???? It'd make a fantastic coffee table cloth in alternating squares!!

Jane, Facebook is a minefield...I belong to a couple of tatting groups, and I think you are right to make a stand on sharing copyright patterns. I am also on several Open University sites, and the admin have strict rules on copyright there as well. It is fine to link or show some of the wonderful free patterns that are available, but ripping off people's copyright work sucks. This doesn't help, I know, but I wanted to give my support. :)

Sounds like that FB group is violating copywrites. Too bad they can't be shut down for infringements.. People work hard on their designs. Your squares look good. I agree, changing up the colors certainly makes the pattern interesting.

I am glad you are standing up for copyrights. I enjoy seeing all the free patterns and those older and in the public but copyrighted work needs to be protected. Good luck on being re-instated.

Sounds like that FB group isn't one of the ones I belong to, because they are very clear about respecting copyright. I hope that the one you mentioned gets straightened out. Piracy of copyrighted patterns is stealing food off of a starving artist's table, literally.

I'd have to think that the group could be reported to Facebook. Mark and any other copyright holders involved should be able to complain if you can't.

Love the square by the way!

Love the squares, and the colours used
I am not on Facebook, I am glad I am not after reading your piece, I would like to look at the site to see what they have on there, I get annoyed when people copy patterns that are under copyright and using them as their own.

They're not using them as their 'own', Margaret. They're scanning pages and pages out of books that are still under copyright. Doesn't affect me as although mine are under copyright rules I'm not making money out of publishing in books. I get cross on other people's behalf!!!!

Sorry, Stringy Dogs - I deleted your comment by mistake! Pressed the wrong button. Shouldn't get up late in the morning and try to rush around.

Just realised - I can copy and paste Stringy Dogs comment myself.
"I love your squares and I love your stand.
Stubborn can be a very, very good trait! "

Scanning whole books? Seriously?
That's a little beyond normal expectations of a use for a pattern.
