Well you know my fascination with Dora Young and also Terri Dusenbury's pineapple type designs so it won't come as any surprise to hear that I found this lovely design by Doretha Albee.
I found this pattern on Georgia Seitz's site. Isn't it lovely? So, of course, I had to give it a whirl while the mermaids were being made worldwide.
It's a pretty straightforward pattern but if you want to know more about Doretha please scroll down to the bottom of the pattern.

Splendid! I enjoyed reading about Doretha Albee, she sounds like an expert tatter!
What interests me is that Doretha started tatting around 30 years after I did and we have never met because the internet didn't exist 'back then' and also she's in America and I'm in the UK. It would've been great to have had contact with her. I hope she's still tatting.

Lovely pineapple doily! Tatted this before but mine doesn't lay flat like yours. Did you block yours, Jane?
She is fascinating and I too printed out her pattern a while ago I made a couple pineapples from Terri but never a completed doily yet💖
No it didn't need blocking, Unknown. If any tatting needs blocking then I think, personally, it's a sign of a bad pattern. I just stick the iron on mine (with a damp cloth on top).

It's actually quite an easy tat, lej619 once you get your head around the fact that a shell is a shell is a shell and stays a shell throughout. I did have to read the final row (or was it the next to final row) very carefully to get that right. Well worth giving it a whirl.

Beautiful and appealing design. Again, I can't believe how quickly you finish these projects, considering all the other things you are doing.
In looking up information on Doretha, I discovered that, sadly, Doretha passed away on April 21, 2011. Georgia Seitz wrote a Memorial to her, which fills in more of her history and amazing accomplishments. In fact, Doretha actually visited and spent time with Georgia in Alaska! By the way, your mermaid is another winner! I've enjoyed seeing all the versions, and learning about other tatters who normally aren't on social media. You have put so much work into the TIAS designs, and also created a separate blog which shows everyone's entries in different stages! Kind of boggles my mind!
Thank you, Kathy. Thanks for the link to the memorial article too. I don't like 'social media' and that's part of the reason this is the last one - it was getting highjacked over there and it wasn't the cozy game I intended it to always be. Time move on!!!
