More new mermaids arrived yesterday - please say 'hello' to them!!!

As you know from this post I first met Dora (well, her book) when I was in South Carolina. I did complete seven of the motifs as in that link but was never 'quite' happy with the joins between them. So I've decided to see if I can master them better by having another 'go'.
This time I'm using a size 40 thread. The beauty of this motif is that it's only one ring and then you can work constantly off the ball thread. I must work out how much thread I need to add to the shuttle for each motif but as I never use knots to join there's really not a lot of point for me personally!!!! I don't use the magic thread trick either - before you ask!!!!

Looking good in pink, Jane. I don't like knots to join either. Avoid like the plague.

It's an interesting motif; the spokes by themselves make a good star, don't they!

Your post prompted me to read more about Dora Young. She really had unique patterns. Your motif is very nice, though I also saw the previous one you made and it didn't look like it needed any improvement.
It's not so much the motif that needs improvement, Lavi Damian-Boja but the joining of several. It's not easy to understand how Dora meant it to be done so I'm making notes as I go along and will add them to the page at the top of the blog when I'm happy with them!!!!
oh, very neat even picots and it looks good. Will be interesting to see your joining. Dora had some interesting patterns.
