A group project

Well it’s Tuesday morning. I’m back blogging a bit more often now that the ‘blue thing’ is over and done with.

Tuesday morning is time for Neighbours and Needles which is where a group of us get together to make things, drink tea and coffee and have a good chat!!

Our main aim is to make things for charities - usually local ones. We’ve made bunting, bags for school books, twiddle muffs, blankets for oldies, glove puppets, harp covers (yes, really) etc.

Each summer we hold a mid summer party in a local garden and we make a quilt to raffle to raise funds. This year I think the proceeds will probably go to one of the local hospices. Below is the almost completed quilt. I brought it home last Tuesday to sew the side fabric on and will take it with me this morning to get the top and bottom done. This is truly a group effort. We all had a rectangle (if we wanted to take one) and ‘did our own thing’. Bearing in mind that a few of us aren’t really sewers this is an amazing piece of work.

Can you spot my contributions?  I was also asked to make bits of tatting for other people too!!

Fantastic project, well done to you all. I suggested the group I belong to make such a quilt, but got a very lukewarm response! So I'm all the more impressed by yours.

Is your tree row 3 column 2??

Please Jane, what is a twiddle muff??? Your group sounds like so much fun and satisfaction.

It worked well because we each took a rectangular piece of fabric (cream) to make a tree on. This morning we’ve started hand sewing the green border on. Next Tuesday should see it finished.

Well spotted God’s Kid. That’s one of them. I did two!!!

Bev - a twiddle (or fiddle) muff is a useful thing for people with dementia and who ‘fiddle’ with things. You knit/crochet a muff then sew inside and outside things they can play with. Like cotton reels, buttons, zips, buckles, ribbon and anything you can think of. I know I’ll need one when I get to that stage as my hands are never still!!!

This is lovely, I haven't made a quilt with a group in a long time😀

I believe your quilted tree is in Row 4, column 2, directly under the 'tatted' one. You showed it in your post back in November 2018! This is a very attractive project. The background fabric is beautiful.

I think you’re right, Kathy. Well spotted! The background fabric is a curtain rescued from a charity shop in Wales!

What a great use for the rescued curtain!

I found your quilted tree square via Blogger's Search bar. I just typed in 'quilt' and didn't have to scroll down too far to find it.
