I have a habit. No, not a nasty or unpleasant one, even. It's a habit I simply can't seem to kick!!!
When I first started tatting the only thing my gran could suggest was doing hanky edgings. Wonderful for practice but not very inspiring for a 13 year old!!!! In fact they're just plain BORING!!!
BUT that's now my 'go to' thing when I've finished whatever task I've set myself for the evening. I seem to always have one at the side of my chair. This is the latest one.
They simply HAVE to be done in a size 80 thread. Nothing else will do. This is the 'oh so simple' edging which can be found here. It really is simple and grows pretty quickly too giving a good depth to the hanky as well. So, this one's finished and I've already got out colours for the next one!!!

Just lovely, and they are becoming very popular too, girls stick them in back pocket! I on the other hand have collected many to do, in all colors and only have done 3 and in white. Go figure! I will get round to this to one day:)

Lovely colours, Jane. I'm like you I always have a hanky edging on the go; also very handy to have something to carry around for the odd moment on holiday. My current one is in size 100 but in white. Note to more adventurous self: bring out the colours.
Oh, Fox, the local charity shop has them. They're brand new and very reasonably priced too. I think they're pretty too. I've also made tiny motifs to put in the corners of hankies in the past as well.
I also like the coloring for this hanky. Very neatly done! Thank you for the inspiration.
I hated hankies for years but I now find they are something I can take with me when I want something small in my handbag and might get time just to do a few inches.
I think hankies are more for us older ladies and not the young kids learning, my grand daughter seems to only want to make animals. Still at least she tatting and learning at the same time, when she gets older some animals may no longer be around.

That's a lot of tatting with size 80, and it's true that tatting looks so delicate in that size thread. Beautiful match to the embroidery.
