Small buttons 2

Well here's the result of more beads!!!  AND it's even got a name too.  I've called it the Fandango Button Snowflake!!!

I'm not the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree and it wasn't until I'd done at least four of these that I realised they were similar in construction to the Fandango series of bookmark, edging and pendant!!!  It does seem daft but that's the truth of it.

So, I present the Fandango Button Snowflake.  I'll have the pattern ready in two days - I've just got to work out how much thread is needed and then it's done and dusted.  Please bear with me.

Playing with small buttons now!

First of all today I have to apologise to Martha - see this link and the comment below.  Beware, dear Martha, things are going to get worse over the next few days and your spare time might just be zonked completely if you like what's coming next!!!

OK, first of all I found some half inch buttons with two holes.  After a bit of jiggling and wriggling this top button emerged.  No, not good enough.

Another search of my tatting cupboard and I found the same size but with four holes.  Now things are moving along.  That's the second picture.

Still not festive enough and lacking grossly in beads I retired to consult dear brain cell # 3.  More tomorrow!!!

All together now

Well, not quite!  One of them is missing.  No, for once not lost but 'in use'.  I've got it on my winter coat!!  It's one of the brown ones.

So, just a quick reminder that today is 'shuttle day' and that the shuttles and holders will be listed at 20.00hrs GMT.  Oh, here's the link to my shop.

This afternoon I'm meeting a group of crocheters at The Buzz cafe in town - they've shown an interest in learning to tat - I'll keep you updated on progress if there is any!!!  So, so often over the years I've gone along to these sessions in an enthusiastic mood only to find that people want instant gratification.

Still, we'll see and I'll be just as eager to get others addicted as usual.

Last two buttons!

These are the last two of the large button brooches - BUT I've more buttons to show you soon.  I think they'll be ready to bore you next week.

Good news on the iMac - it arrived home yesterday and is now back in it's clean and tidy corner.  Wonder how long THAT will last - being clean and tidy, I mean!!!

The company who did this for Apple (and me!) are called Amsys and were truly great.  You rarely get service like theirs nowadays so I think it's worth mentioning here as praise should be given where it's due.  Picked up Monday, returned Thursday with the new hard disc and all back as normal.  I did pay for my data to be restored on to the new disc and it was well worth not having the hassle of using backups to do it.

I spent all yesterday morning setting up the shuttle listings and adding a new page to the top of the blog with the post shuttles on and adding two new woods to the Pop a Bobbin page too.  Sadly they are not the best of pictures but that's mainly due to the really dull and VERY wet weather we've been having - floods all over the UK and my regular walk well under water.  I apologise for the bad photos and when and IF we see the sun before those shuttles leave the house I'll take more and replace them.

Buttons, shuttles and other things

Another brown large button today but that's not really important.  What IS important is the list of shuttles that I'll be adding to the Etsy store on SATURDAY 24th November at 20.00 GMT.  Which is in English 8pm in the evening for me and a time I hope I remember!!!
Anyway, this is the list of shuttles that 'im in the garage has made and a picture of one of three bobbin holders that I have my 'mucky mitts' on too!!!

Post Shuttles
3 Ash with ladybird picture
1 Ash with sunflower picture
7 Holly with holly picture
3 Pear with pear picture

Pop-a-bobbin shuttles
5 Cherry with hooks
1 Cherry without hook
3 Laburnum with hooks

More blue but with pink!

A slight change of colour.  Yesterday was blue and today is too but with overtones of pink too.

Well I resolved the tidying up yesterday and moved a bit more dust over to it's new home - Nick's side of our 'office'!!!  Isn't that MEAN?!?!?  I also rang the company who have now got possession of my machine and the lass who answered the phone said that it takes five to seven working days BUT that they usually turn them round faster than that.  So, by the middle of next week my machine should be back home!!!

Now that the space is ready for it's return I'll be able to spend the next few days taking photographs and preparing another batch of shuttles etc for the Etsy shop - Sally brought them up at the weekend.  I'm THINKING of letting them go live this weekend.  Any preferences on timing?  I like Saturday as it then gives me all day Sunday to pack them etc but I'm open to suggestions!

Blue is beautiful

Well I apologise but here's another of these buttons.  I'm now getting vibes from brain cell 3 who's pointed out to me that I DOOO have other things to do!!!

Well the imac went for it's new hard disc yesterday which has sadly forced me to tidy up the corner of the room where it normally lives.  WHAT a horrid task!  I'm not a house proud person - our house is a sort of a 'messy muddle' with a good layer of dust in some places which, when you think about it, serves as good insulation during these winter months.  Well, that's my excuse!!

I will be continuing with this clean up today too.  I've thrown away quite a bit of stuff but there's still more to tackle!!!

19 November 2012

Another of the button brooches

I'm on a roll with these buttons.  Can't seem to leave them alone at the moment!!! I've now got this one on my winter coat.  Admittedly I've stiffened it a bit so it doesn't get 'squashed' when I throw it down in a heap or occasionally remember to hang it up.

Isn't that what floors were made for?  To hang things on?  Please tell me if I'm wrong!

Now keeping my fingers crossed that 'they' will pick up my iMac for repair today.  It looks so sad that empty place on my work top where it usually sits.  Fortunately we found we'd still got the box it came in over two years ago - up in the loft.  Made packing it up a lot easier.

Large buttons 1

I suddenly found some buttons I'd been given ages ago by Crazy Mom in this wonderful gift.

Well I knew they were there but like most things they had to wait for that moment when I knew what they were going to be used for!!!  Suddenly I had a 'yen' to play with buttons again.  These are large two hole buttons and as I hadn't got a pattern for that size I had to 'invent' one!!

This is the result of a few days of playing around.  It's only rings and chains with a 'few' (ha, ha, cough, cough, splutter, splutter) beads added!!  Do I feel Christmas coming on too?!?!?!  There are more of these to come plus a variation next week.

Obviously these can be made in other colours but for me this will be the colour that I'll wear for now.  Here's the pattern!!

16 November 2012

Doodad heaven!

In the post a few days ago there came this!!!  Actually it was the day after Miranda's surprise too!!!  Am I spoilt or am I spoilt?

More wonderful doodads from our blue Queen of the Doodads - Diane.  Thank you Diane.

Now at the moment I'm working on something else which I hope to share next week.  I'm hoping that at least one of these doodads and/or some of Miranda's might also be able to be used with the latest idea.

It's going to be a sad, sad week as my dear iMac is on a recall from Apple because the Seagate hard discs are liable to fail.  I've known about this for a month or so and contingency plans are in place.  I can continue with most things from the laptop but NOT drawings so you'll not get much of a break from my inane blog posts - poor things.

A new book

I just couldn't resist this little book by Rosemarie Peel.  I think I've now got all of her books (except her Christmas one) and they're worth every penny and MORE.  This one came up on Ebay and it's in perfect condition.  The motifs are all relatively simple but with Rosemarie's flair they are just so pretty.  I was intrigued with the way the flower called Primrose was started and made so will have to give that a whirl as it might lead to something else from the poor old brain cell 3.  You never know!!!!

It was Rosemarie that first came up with what I always think of as 'real' celtic tatting.  She took two elements, intertwined them and then 'anchored' them with a third element.  This has always intrigued me.

The other style of what I personally think of as celtic KNOT tatting (making long chains and interweaving them) has it's place too but the two things shouldn't be confused.  I love Rosemarie's ideas and find that each time I buy one of her books I there are several things that I HAVE to try out!!!  Primrose is 'targeted' for a trial soon!!!

Oh, interestingly the book came from the same town where Rosemarie lives which I think is a  huge coincidence as they travel the world.  I asked the seller if he knew that and he didn't.  Small world, eh?

Back on pattern page!!!

I've thought about this and have decided that it's OK to put this Christmas tree pattern back on my site.

Why?  Well for those of you who follow my ramblings you'll remember that I added it to the blog back in January.  Then I decided to apply for a teaching post at Palmetto Tat Days so this was a good pattern to teach and I took it down again!!!

Normally I won't put Tat Days patterns up on my site until roughly February so that they've got a chance to sell as many of the CD's as they can.  BUT mine are only a small and therefore insignificant part of what is on the CD so this time brain cell 3 nudged me and said I could re-load it on there.

This is the pattern I'm talking about.  Here's a picture!!!!

13 November 2012

Mystery solved!

The packet arrived yesterday!!  It was a miserable wet day so it was the only cheerful part of the day.  It was Miranda who'd sent the packet.  She'd asked me to make her a bag out of some fabric and we'd arranged for her to send it to me.  Now I was expecting a fat quarter for a bag!!!

Wrong again, OG!!!  I should've known that the Americans live in a big country and have big hearts too.  It was a box FULL to the brim with goodies.  Lots of fabric and a million doodads plus some of Jess's wonderful HDT.

Thanks, Miranda - that'll keep me quiet for the next fifty years!!!

Oh, just to let anybody know who's interested.  Any package whether a gift or a purchase that is marked with a value of over £50.000 (or $80.00) incurs a customs charge when entering the UK.  Sender beware!!!!  I'm not telling people to lie over the value of any contents but it may be worth being parsimonious with the true value!!!  No, I didn't just say that - honest, me lud!!

12 November 2012

Face of a reindeer!

Today is going to be 'interesting'!!  On Friday I had a letter from Parcel Force telling me that they had a package to deliver to me BUT that I'd got to pay £18.00 (nearly $29.00) customs and excise duty (plus handling charge) before I could have it.  I was held to ransom over this as I think it might be the new Aerlit shuttles from Barb.  Having 'spoken' to Barb I'm now not sure as the value of the shuttles certainly wouldn't merit a charge like THAT!!!!  Of course I paid it - curiosity got the better of me!!  I'll tell you more tomorrow but for now I have a new pattern for you.

This could be a useful little doodle, I think!!!  I suppose you could add it to Christmas cards etc.

It came about during a conversation when Sally and I were at Joanie's.  She asked if I could possibly do a reindeer face and showed me a picture of a tatted reindeer head.  I've no idea how it was made or who by so when I got home I had to start completely from scratch.  Well I normally start from scratch anyway so that I don't meet any copyright issues.

Scratch?  No I haven't got fleas!!!!!

Anyway, here is a link to it.  Joanie test tatted it for me but the nose has undergone a small change since then (sorry, Joanie).  She also suggested (and tried) doing it using the double double stitch too and it works well made like that.  The first picture is the head worked normally and the second using the double double.  Have fun with it - I'd love to see if it really does work on cards etc!!!!

Yet another Garden Snowflake

Whoops - this one hasn't been eased into shape yet.  Yes, I did say eased!!!!  I rarely block anything - just wet it, ease it carefully into shape (IF needed) and gently 'show' it the iron!!!

I'm plain idle!!!  I also believe that a good pattern should have it's shape designed into it and not need much pressing and certainly not blocking - unless it's for the sake of picot straightening.  Unfortunately this little motif got shoved into my pocket and forgotten for a day or two so it does need a little TLC!!!!  The times I find things in my pocket and often after trip in the washing machine - you'd think I'd frisk myself regularly but I forget!!!

As the Tat It And See is taking so much time lately I'm going to have to miss the odd day's posting here and there.  WHAT?  Did I hear cheers of delight?!?!?

I'm still here though so don't think I'm not listening in to what's going on in Tat Land.

7 November 2012

Away in a manger

Now WHAT does that mean?  Away?  I mean you're either in a manger or not so where does 'away' come into it?  That story is a strange one anyway.  You'd think a pregnant woman would've booked a hotel in advance on a trip like that!!!  Silly moo.  Still it is only a story so I bet there's a lot of poetic licence in there somewhere!!

Sorry, I'm prevaricating and trying to get round to showing you another little 'almost doodle' that I've got here.

I thought this one might be useful for making Christmas cards.

6 November 2012

More of the Garden Snowflake

There will be a few more of these posts as I endeavour to make enough to give away at Christmas.  Don't go away, though, as there are two more patterns (only small ones) to post and I'm still busy working on the Tat It And See too.

Yesterday was really busy packing the shuttles etc and getting them in the post.

Just a note to those living in America - the lass at the Post Office said to allow an extra two to three days for them to arrive as things were still settling down after Sandy.  Not a lot any of us can do about that except wait!!!!  I do hope that everybody affected by the storm is beginning to get back to normal.

5 November 2012

Pattern finished at LAST!

I've been meaning to get this finished for days and finally I've got it up on my site yesterday.

This is the result of making so many Garden Wall motifs!!  Brain cell 3 started thinking again while I was doing those and finally came up with the Garden Snowflake!!!  I'm really quite chuffed with this design and intend to bore you to death with more pictures.  These are going to be my main Christmas giveaways this year.

Meanwhile I'm finishing off two more Christmas projects - only tiddly ones but it's surprising how long they take to 'get right'.  I'm hoping to get those up this week too - we'll see!!!

Nearly forgot - here's the link for the new Garden Snowflake pattern.

3 November 2012

Don't forget!

Shuttles tomorrow at 20.00 hours GMT!!!  Hope I don't forget either.  Perhaps you can drop me a message about twenty minutes before, Sally and anybody else who's around?  Also while you're all busy shopping for shuttles etc please take a peek at my bookmarks etc.  They really ARE a fabulous idea and I'm not saying that just cause I thought of them but mainly because I use one all the time and have proved to myself that they work!!!  They'd make a really good Christmas present too.

Which reminds me - I have several Christmas patterns to share with you over the next few weeks so I'd better get on and finish them off!!!!

Anyway today I'm showing you the other four butterflies I chose for the cardigan.

2 November 2012

Brain dead but recovering!!

I apologise for yesterday's post which was confusing to say the least!!!  I put Saturday at the start for the new batch of shuttles and Sunday towards the end!!!  Just say that I realised that I'd be invaded by visitors (happy days) on Saturday so won't be able to release them then.

So, Sunday is shuttle, hook and bobbin holder day!!!!

Below are some not very good photos of the butterflies on my cardigan!!  Sewn on with invisible thread as usual!!!

Please wish brain cell 3 a quick recovery after his 'blip' yesterday!!!!
